A 37-year-old rideshare driver has been detained after two passengers reported separate sexual abuse incidents occurring within a five-day period in St. Charles County, Missouri.

Key Facts

  • Two victims reported sexual abuse by the same rideshare driver

  • Incidents occurred on January 9 and January 14, 2025

  • The driver worked for both Lyft and Uber platforms

  • Suspect held on $250,000 cash-only bond

  • The driver was in the U.S. on an expired tourist visa

  • Charges include kidnapping, sexual assault, and harassment

Who Is the Accused Driver?

Ahmad Rayahi, 37, was arrested on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, and charged by the St. Charles County Prosecuting Attorney's Office with:

  • First-degree harassment

  • Second-degree sexual assault

  • Third-degree kidnapping

According to the St. Charles Police Department, Rayahi was in the United States on a tourist visa that has since expired.

What Happened to the First Victim?

On January 9, 2025, an 18-year-old victim requested transportation through the Lyft rideshare app. According to investigators:

  • The driver allegedly sexually abused the victim in St. Charles

  • The victim was able to escape

  • The victim contacted law enforcement after escaping

What Happened to the Second Victim?

Five days after the first incident, on January 14, 2025, a 34-year-old victim requested transportation via the UberX service. The St. Charles Police Department reports:

  • The driver allegedly deviated from the intended destination

  • The driver is accused of committing acts of sexual abuse at a different location in Lake St. Louis.

  • The victim was able to contact a friend during the incident

  • The victim escaped after someone else confronted the driver

How Did Police Connect the Two Cases?

The St. Charles Police Department identified Rayahi as the driver suspected in both cases. Their investigation led to his arrest on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, the day after the second reported incident.

What Is Rayahi's Current Status?

Rayahi is currently detained in St. Charles County on a $250,000 cash-only bond. The amount of the bond reflects the serious nature of the charges, which include accusations of kidnapping and sexual assault involving two separate individuals.

Questions About Rideshare Safety

These incidents have led to concerns about passenger safety in rideshare vehicles. In both cases, the victims managed to get away. The first victim contacted law enforcement after escaping, and the second was able to alert a friend and leave after someone confronted the driver.

These cases also bring up questions about how drivers are screened. The accused worked for more than one platform while reportedly staying in the country on an expired visa. Rideshare companies usually run background checks that look at criminal and driving records and confirm identity. Still, there can be gaps, especially if a driver has not lived in the country long or does not provide enough documents.
